To be truth, I don't think so. Maybe in some cases television did destroy communication among friends or family members, but the number of these cases is not very big, and most of them took place several years ago.
At least in my country, television hasn't destroyed communication among people, but enhanced it. Chatting while watching TV is a good method for communication. And in most times, people watch TV at home, with family members, not in their companies or a restaurant. On the other hand, TV always supplies abundant information and amusement programs which can be used as topics in communications among friends or family members. A typical instance is Spring Festival Gala Evening, a very hot TV program in New Year's Eve. Although sometimes it's stupid and dull, it supplies a good chance for family members to watch TV
together and talk about the programs or other things at the same time. So TV has more of a positive than a negative effect on communication.
Besides, coincident with the prevalence of computer, the functions of TV have become to be replaced by those of computer. People use much time on computer to surf the Internet, watch movies or just play PC games. But you can't imagine that family members would use a computer together. People always use computer alone, in Internet Bars or their companies, chatting with friends on Internet, not the real world. It used to be reported that a college student hadn't left a Internet Bar for nearly seven days, and at last he was awaken from
sleeping by a slap of his father. So contrasted with TV, computer play a more important role in destroying communication among friends and family members.
Finally, it should be pointed out that not that TV has destroyed communication among people, but that the increasing pressure of modern life is the real murderer of it. If a people wants to be successful, he have to work day and night, and use more time to complete missions from his boss and try to keep a well relationship with co-workers, such as my boss, a famous organic chemistry scientist, who works from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in every day.
